What We Believe

The Scriptures:

We believe that the Bible (the sixty-six books of the Old & New Testaments) is the plenary, verbally inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, that it is the supreme and final authority in faith and life (all human conduct, creeds, and opinions), and that the supernatural is the vital element in the revelation and operation of the Christian Faith. 2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21; Hebrews 1:1; John 16:12, 13.

The Godhead:

We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons — Father, Son and Holy Spirit — co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections. 1 John 5:7; John 1:1, 2; Matthew 28:18, 20.

God the Father:

We believe in God the Father, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from eternal death and from hell all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 13:14 with Matthew 28:19; Revelation 4:8; Romans 11:33; Genesis 17:1; Exodus 34:6, 7; Psalms 10:17; Titus 1:2 and Titus 3:7 with John 3:16 and 18.

God the Son:

We believe in the absolute deity of the Lord Jesus Christ; in His virgin birth; His perfect humanity; His vicarious death through the shedding of His blood for the remission of sins; His bodily resurrection and ascension; His present high priestly ministry in heaven for believers; His being the only sufficient mediator between God and man; and in His second coming in the air for His saints and to the earth with His saints. John 1:1; Matthew 1:20-23; John 1:14; 2 Corinthians 5:31; Hebrews 9:26; Luke 24; 1 Timothy 2:5; Acts 1:9-11; Hebrews 12:19-22; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18; Revelation 20:4.

God the Holy Spirit:

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person; that He convicts the world concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment; that He is the agent of the new birth; that He baptizes all true believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sanctifying all of them, sealing and thus securing them unto the day of redemption; that He endues, guides, teaches, and helps believers; and that it is the privilege and duty of all the saved to be yielded to the Spirit. John 14-16, 17, 26; John 16:7-11; John 3:5; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 4:30.

Creation:

We believe that God created the heavens and the earth, including all life, each after its own kind, by direct act and not by the process of evolution. Genesis 1, 2: John 1:3; Colossians 1:16, 17.

Man:

We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred both physical and spiritual death which is eternal separation from God; that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and are sinners in thought, word, and deed, absolutely guilty and lost and incapable of saving themselves by their own works (saved man will have works) being dead in trespasses and sins and are in need of being born again. Genesis 2, 3; Romans 5; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:1; John 3:3, 7.

Gender, Marriage, and Sexuality

We believe that God created humanity “male and female”. Genesis 1:27. As God intentionally created humanity with gender distinction, rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of God’s prerogative and purpose as Creator. Genesis 1:26-27. To assert that God created a person with the “wrong” biological sex is idolatrous because it implies that we know better than God regarding His creation.

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one biological (i.e., a male by birth) and one biological woman (i.e., a female by birth) in a single, exclusive union (a covenant), as delineated in Scripture. Genesis 2:18-25. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. 1 Corinthians 6:18; 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

We believe that since the fall of mankind Genesis 3 we all still struggle with sin and its effects. We believe that any form of sexual immorality, either in desire or action, is sinful and offensive to God. This includes but is not limited to: adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, pedophilia, incest, and use of pornography. Matthew 5:27-30; 15:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.

We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Acts 3:19-21; Romans 10:9-10; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. Furthermore, every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31.

Salvation:

We believe that salvation is a gift of God in grace, wholly apart from any human merit and is received by man through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ whose precious blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins John 1:12; Romans 4:5; Ephesians 1:7; 2:8, 9. We believe that the sacrifice of the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ was sufficient to pay for the sins of all who have or shall ever live but that it becomes efficacious only for those who will put their faith and trust in Him. We believe that all true believers, once saved are sealed and kept secure in Christ forever. We reject the teaching that a saved man can lose his salvation Romans 8:1, 27-30, 38, 39; John 6:37; John 10:27-30. We further believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, in virtue of His redemptive work on the cross, and that neither baptism, the Lord’s Supper, nor any other rite, ceremony, or work can avail one whit for the sinner’s salvation. Christ alone saves. Ephesians 1:7; 2:8, 9.

The Two Natures:

We believe that every saved person possesses two natures; that he has the old nature for the duration of his earthly life, but that provision is made for victory of the new nature over the old nature through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Romans 7; I John 3:1, 2.

Sanctification:

We believe that sanctification for the believer is immediate, upon acceptance of Christ as Savior, and progressive, continuing to the end of earthly life; and that the progressive phase of sanctification is carried on in the hearts of believers by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in the continual use of the appointed means, especially the Word of God, self-examination, self-denial, watchfulness and prayer. 1 Peter 1:2; Ephesians 4:24; Romans 6:6; John 17:17; 2 Corinthians 6:17; 7:1.

Separation – Ecclesiastical:

We believe that the local church and every Christian in the local church should not affiliate with, aid or abet apostasy in any form (this includes such movements as the modernists, liberals, neo-orthodox, and the like, including all groups not in harmony with the Word of God.) 2 Corinthians 6:14-17.

Separation – Personal:

We believe that every Christian should be personally separated from the world unto God; that believers are in the world but not of it; that the Christian is not to love the world or be conformed to it; that he is a pilgrim and a stranger here and should “walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit”. 1 John 2:15-17; I John 5:4. The believer is exhorted to search his life!

The Local Church:

We believe that the local church is a congregation of born-again believers, saved by the precious blood of Christ, governed by His laws, and exercising the rights and privileges expressed in the Word of God; that it has the absolute right of self-government, free from the interference of a hierarchy of individuals or organizations. It is the responsibility of the local church and its officers to separate from and forsake all that might dishonor God or cast discredit on His cause, or weaken the local testimony, to edify the saints and to seek to win others to Christ even to the “uttermost part of the earth”. Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 16:19; Revelation 2:1, 8, 12, 18; 3:1, 7, 14.

Communion and Baptism:

The Lord’s Supper is a commemoration of the Lord’s death until He comes, and will be open to all born again believers. The Lord’s Supper will be observed periodically as specified by the elders. Baptism is not required for membership, but will be provided for those who desire it. Baptism will be by immersion. Matthew 26-30; Mark 4:23-26; Luke 22:19, 20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29.

The Blessed Hope:

We believe in “that blessed hope”, the literal, bodily personal, pre-millennial and imminent coming of our Lord into the air to catch away His church; also in the personal, visible and glorious return of Christ to the earth to judge the living nations and to set up His kingdom. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Daniel 9:24-27; Revelation 20.

The Resurrection of Man:

We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men accomplished by means of two resurrections — the resurrection of believers to everlasting life (at the Rapture), and the second in the resurrection of the lost to everlasting, conscious punishment (following the millennium). Revelation 4:1; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Daniel 9:24-27; Revelation 20:1-6, 7-15.

The Eternal State:

We believe that the souls of those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation will immediately pass into the presence of the Lord at physical death. There they shall remain in the conscious bliss until the resurrection of the body at His coming for His church (Rapture) and live eternally with the Lord in glory. The souls of unbelievers shall remain after death in conscious torment until the final judgment at the Great White Throne at the close of the millennium. At that time the soul shall be united with a body fitted for eternal punishment and cast into the Lake of Fire, not to be annihilated, but to be punished, in outer darkness, with everlasting separation from the Lord and from the glory of His power. Luke 16:19; 26: 23-43; 2 Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9; Revelation 20:11-15.

Separation of Church and State:

We believe that every human being has the right to a direct relationship with God, and is responsible to Him alone in all matters of faith, through the local church, through its officers and members, should exert all possible pastoral and brotherly care for brethren that err; and that church and state should be kept separate as having distinct functions, each fulfilling its duties free from dictation or patronage from the other. 1 Timothy 2:5; Ecclesiastes 12:13; 1 Corinthians 5:11-13.

The Lord’s Day:

We believe that in this age of grace, the Lord’s Day, which is the first day of the week, the day of our Lord’s resurrection, is the proper day for Christian worship and service. Acts 20:7.

Satan:

We believe that Satan, a fallen angel, is a distinct and real personality, the god of this age, the adversary of Christ and His church, and that his destiny is eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire. John 8:44; 2 Corinthians 4:4; with Ephesians 2:2; John 13:2; 1 Thessalonians 2:18; Revelation 20:1-3, 7,8,10.

AUTHORITY OF DOCTRINE:

The final authority for dealing with matters of church doctrine is the Doctrinal Statement as stated above.

Our Faith Commitment

  1. There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  2. The Holy Bible is the inspired, infallible and authoritative source of Christian doctrine and precept.
  3. Man was created in the image of God but, as a result of sin, is lost and powerless to save himself.
  4. The only hope for man is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, the virgin-born Son of God, who died to take upon Himself the punishment for the sin of mankind, and who rose from the dead, so that by receiving Him as Savior and Lord, man is redeemed by His blood.
  5. That Jesus Christ will personally return to earth in power and glory. That the Holy Spirit indwells those who receive Christ for the purpose of enabling them to live righteous and holy lives.
  6. That the Church is the Body of Christ and is comprised of all those who, through belief in Christ, have been spiritually regenerated by the indwelling Holy Spirit. The mission of the church is worldwide evangelization and the nurture and discipling of Christians.
